Oberon Year 3 and 4

Welcome to Class Oberon!

Here are a few things you need to know:

Homework

Homework will be sent home on a Monday and will be due in the following Monday.  This will usually be maths or English, but may also relate to one of the topics we are studying. If your child doesn’t understand what they need to do, please remind them to find their teacher as soon as possible.

Book Bags

Please can I remind you to send your child’s book bag in with them every day. This will allow us to change their books, send home letters and prevent them from losing things from the classroom to home.

Water bottles

Please can you provide your child with a water bottle at the start of the year. It will need to be named. Water bottles will be sent home at the end of each day to be washed thoroughly. Only water should be provided. We will fill the bottles with fresh water as and when required.

PE Kits

Please ensure that your child wears their PE kit to school. PE is on a Thursday. When the weather is colder you may wish to send your child with joggers over their shorts, as they might get cold throughout the day. Please make sure that the kit you send your child to school in is sensible and as plain as possible. Children should not be wearing earrings into school on PE days.

Reading Books

Please ensure that your child continues to read throughout the week.  We will send one book home per week during this time which will then be brought back to school and a new one will be provided.  It is good that children re-read the book, pick out key words, talk through some trickier words, what do they mean? Discuss the plot, characters, feelings etc. If you feel they have exhausted the book use something from your child’s book shelf including magazines and leaflets!

Please put a comment every time your child reads (including the page they have got to) so that we can support them, and we can change their book. As your child is now reading longer books it is not required to read the whole book at once.  We recommend 10 minutes each night.

Maths

Children have been given usernames and passwords to TTRockstars and Prodigy Maths, two online maths games that will help them to develop their maths skills. TT Rockstars will develop their mental maths skills with multiplication and division. Prodigy Maths will challenge them across the whole maths curriculum.

Children need to be practising their times tables as often as possible. Year 4’s are now expected to complete an online times table assessment during the Summer Term. We will prepare children for this in school, but please continue to support them at home. We will be playing plenty of multiplication shootout in class!

Fruit

Now that the children are juniors they are no longer provided with a piece of fruit at playtimes.  We recommend that you send your child with a piece of fruit each day.

Thank you

Mr Berry
