Information for parents of children in Phoenix Class, Year 2
Gosh where did the summer holiday go? I hope that you all had a great time and are eager to start the year!
Welcome to Phoenix class. This year the class has only Year 2 children and is in a new classroom, making this an exciting adventure for the top end of the infants! Phoenix class is taught by Mrs L Payne Monday to Tuesday and Mrs K Adams Wednesday to Friday (Mrs Payne will also be teaching science on Wednesday afternoons and cannot wait!). The class teaching assistant is Mrs C Solana who is very artistic!
Book bags – Please can I remind you to send your child’s book bag in with them every day. This will allow us to send home letters and prevent them from losing things from the classroom to home.
Water bottles – Please can you provide your child with a water bottle each day. It will need to be named. We will send the water bottle home at the end of each day to be washed. Only water should be provided. We will refill the bottles with fresh water each day if required.
Milk and fruit – The children will receive a free piece of fruit in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. They will also receive a carton of milk until they turn 5. You can order milk for them when they are 5 so that they can continue to enjoy it. If your child does not like a particular variety of fruit then you are welcome to send in a piece of fruit that you know they will enjoy. We are a healthy school, so no crisps, chocolate, cereal bars or junk food please.
PE kits – PE is on Tuesday with Mr Tomley, and the children are always excited to participate. The children can come to school wearing their PE kit on these days. We will be doing PE outside as much as possible, so please ensure that they wear joggers in colder weather.
Reading books – Please can you read regularly at home with your child and make a record of it in their reading record. They will have a reading book to aid their phonic knowledge as well as a picture book from the library, that is for sharing together. Your child can change their reading book every Monday. They need to remember to put it into the red reading box ready, please can you remind them of this at drop off.
Homework – Homework will be sent home on a Monday and will be due in the following Monday. The homework will either be English and Maths/Topic, based on work that is relevant to our learning. It is important to encourage your child to complete the homework as independently as possible, however some work will require working together.
If you have any questions, please come and see us.
