The Yorkley School Curriculum Statement of Intent
At Yorkley, our curriculum is carefully designed and constructed to achieve our goal of ensuring that our pupils are ready for lifelong learning. We therefore aim to provide a broad education that goes beyond the classroom and provides children with opportunities to explore and develop their own values and beliefs, spiritual awareness, high standards of personal behaviour, a positive caring attitude towards other people, an understanding of their social and cultural traditions and an appreciation of the diversity and richness of other cultures. This is embedded throughout all aspects of school life through the use of themed days to build cultural context, visitors, trips and a creative curriculum intertwined with our school values; patience, perseverance, partnership, practice and pride. These link together to give the children the power.
The school offers a bespoke, balanced, ambitious and differentiated curriculum covering all areas of the National Curriculum which has been created by staff to match the needs of our school. Our aim is to provide a curriculum that meets the needs, interests and abilities of all children at our school. We do our utmost to maximise success for all children by giving them the best teaching and learning experiences with an emphasis on oracy.
This curriculum comprises of the core subjects – English, Mathematics, RE, Computing (ICT) and Science and the foundation subjects –Design Technology, History, Geography, Art, Music, Physical Education and Personal, Social and Health Education. The core subjects are taught both stand alone and as part of our creative curriculum in which the foundation subjects are taught as part of a themed termly topic.
As a school we have identified curriculum drivers that personalise our curriculum which consist of creativity, building me, belonging, active adventure and communication. We use these ‘drivers’ to underpin the development work we undertake in all areas of school life and to ensure our curriculum offer is personalised to our children and their families. Our drivers are factors that we value as a school, these coupled with our agreed values, visons and aims give focused learning opportunities and are embedded throughout teaching and learning, developing the child as whole.
