Information for parents of class 2
‘Valuing Learning, Learning to Value’
Thank you for all our Christmas cards and gifts, many thanks.
This term we are exploring the idea of a significant person such as; Christopher Columbus as an explorer. The children will learn all the key facts about his voyage and himself as a person. I wonder if they can tell you what makes a great explorer? Science this term is linked to our Art/Artist. We are going to explore and investigate the properties of the recycled household things that we bring in – lots of sorting and classifying! After we do that we are going to design and make a sea creature out of the recycling. FUN, FUN, FUN!! Come and join us.
You have had the new Knowledge Organiser based on the key facts of the history behind Christopher Columbus. Behind the Knowledge Organiser there are key words linked to the topic [both science and history] that I hope you will read, talk through and if appropriate put them in s suitable sentence. Aim even HIGHER this term! I have shared the books that we are using this term, so if you have them at home please read them with them.
Class 2 will be taught by Mrs L Payne, Mrs T Morse and Mrs Sargent supporting every morning and Mrs P James will be teaching the class every Friday.
- Please ensure that book bags are in school everyday
- When you have read with your child make a comment in their reading record
- Books can be changed regularly (encourage your child to put their book into blue box ready for changing.)They will only be changed if you have made a comment
- The children will be reading daily in class either as individuals, a group or with the whole class
Class 2’s library day is on a Friday. When children visit the library we encourage them to choose from a selection of fiction and non-fiction. Library books need to be returned each week.
Homework will be sent home on a Monday and will be due in the following Monday. The homework will either be literacy, numeracy or topic, based on work that is relevant to our learning. It is important to encourage your child to complete the homework as independently as possible however some work will require working together.
Our PE day is Tuesday and we now have SWIMMIMG ON THE THURSDAY. Please ensure that PE kits are left in school. They need to be labelled and in a named bag. If your child attends an after school sports club they will need a separate sports kit. Children who wear earrings should not wear them on PE days.
Milk and Fruit
The children still receive a piece of fruit everyday at break time. You need to register your child if you wish them to receive milk.
Any questions please come and see us at the end of the school day.
Thank you for your continued support
Mrs L Payne, Mrs Sargent & Mrs T Morse
