Information for parents of class 2
‘Valuing Learning, Learning to Value’
Message from Mr Tuffley.
“I am really looking forward to joining the team and would like to thank Mrs Burke for giving this opportunity to work with the wonderful children and staff at Yorkley School. I have taught nearly every age of children in a fifteen year teaching career at different schools in the Forest of Dean. I am passionate about making sure that children in the district I was brought up in get a great education. I have two children called George (aged 9) and Fred (aged 5) who keep me very busy! When I’m not teaching or looking after my boys, I enjoy running, caving and reading. I can’t wait to meet you all soon”. Mr Tuffley.
The knowledge organiser gives you some important key things that you can read and discuss with your child. It also has some website links that would be lovely to watch or access with your children.
The key words are important to the children really understanding this topic and allowing them to access a wider range of words. This is vital to developing their reading, writing and spelling. Reading them and their definition to the children will help them enormously. To further develop the children’s understanding writing them into sentences helps to embed them! Give them some gel pens and getting writing.
Please continue to read with your child asking lots of questions about what they have read and what they think might happen next. Homework given will also support key ideas and concepts that will support the learning in class, so please make every effort to complete these tasks. Any questions please feel free to come in and ask.
Class 2 will be taught by Mr Tomley, Mrs T Morse and Miss Brain.
- Please ensure that book bags are in school everyday
- When you have read with your child make a comment in their reading record
- Books can be changed regularly (encourage your child to put their book into blue box ready for changing.)They will only be changed if you have made a comment
- The children will be reading daily in class either as individuals, a group or with the whole class
Class 2’s library day is on a Friday. When children visit the library we encourage them to choose from a selection of fiction and non-fiction. Library books need to be returned each week.
Homework will be sent home on a Monday and will be due in the following Monday. The homework will either be literacy, numeracy or topic, based on work that is relevant to our learning. It is important to encourage your child to complete the homework as independently as possible however some work will require working together.
Our PE day is Tuesday. Please ensure that PE kits are left in school. They need to be labelled and in a named draw string bag. If your child attends an after school sports club they will need a separate sports kit. Children who wear earrings should not wear them on PE days.
Milk and Fruit
The children still receive a piece of fruit everyday at break time. You need to register your child if you wish them to receive milk.
Any questions please come and see us at the end of the school day.
Thank you for your continued support
