Welcome to Class 1. Our class has a mixture of reception children and Year 1.
Please can I remind you to send your child’s book bag in with them every day. This will allow us to change their books, send home letters and prevent them from losing things from the classroom to home. The reception children will be given a book bag from the PTA when they first start. Replacement book bags can be bought from the PTA for £5.
Please can you provide your child with a water bottle at the start of the year. It will need to be named. We will send the water bottle home at the end of each week to be washed. Only water should be provided. We will fill the bottles with fresh water each day.
Milk and fruit
The children will receive a piece of free fruit in reception, Year 1 and Year 2. They will also receive a cartoon of milk until they turn 5. You can order milk for them when they are 5 so that they can continue to enjoy it. If your child does not like a variety of fruit then you are welcome to send in a piece of fruit that you know they will enjoy. We are a healthy school so no crisps, chocolate or junk food please.
Please ensure that your child always has a PE kit in school. PE is on a Tuesday, however there will be other times when PE kits are needed for other areas of learning. When the weather is colder you may wish to send your child with joggers. Please use a drawstring PE bag.
Please can you read regularly at home with your child and make a record of it in their reading record. Your child can change their reading book daily if required. They need to remember to put it into the red reading box ready!
Woodland walk will be every Friday afternoon once the reception children are settled and ready. If you are able to help please let us know. Please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather and that their wellies are in school throughout the week. They can wear jeans or joggers but should wear their school T-shirt and jumper.
Library and maths games
The children will be bringing home a library book and a maths game on alternate weeks. If you are able to help with this one afternoon please let us know.
Homework will be sent home on a Monday and will be due in the following Monday. The homework will either be English and Maths/Topic, based on work that is relevant to our learning. It is important to encourage your child to complete the homework as independently as possible however some work will require working together. The reception children will be bringing home a ‘Phonics workbook’ for you to complete and learn together.
We will be cooking every Monday afternoon in small groups. This may require a small donation of ingredients when it’s your childs’ time to cook.
